PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

With the October 15 deadline set by the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami for road patchwork ending on Thursday, the Public Works Department (PWD) has completed around 90 per cent of the work in Dehradun, leaving the remaining 10 per cent pending due to rainfall.

The PWD executive engineer Om Pal Singh said that the department could have completed the remaining work by the deadline had rainfall not disrupted operations on Thursday. He added that patchwork would continue beyond October 15.

The estimated cost of road patchwork in Dehradun is around Rs 16 crore. Across Uttarakhand, the proposed expenditure stands at Rs 21.1759 crore, with a target of repairing roads covering 923.02 kilometre.

Despite the deadline, the department has been unable to complete the entire target. Officials said that work on the remaining stretches would continue as weather conditions permit.

The delay comes as the chief minister’s deadline has expired, while commuters continue to await repairs on roads where potholes and damaged patches remain.
