Rain brings temperature down, heat likely to rise in coming days

Light to moderate rain brought the temperature down in various parts of the State on Thursday. Similar weather is likely today with the State Meteorological Centre forecasting the possibility of very light to light rain/thunderstorms/snowfall (at altitudes of 4,200 metres and above) likely to occur at isolated places in the mountainous districts of the State. A yellow warning has also been issued regarding thunderstorms accompanied by lightning/gusty winds (30-40 kmph) likely to occur at isolated places in the mountainous districts. Dry weather is likely to prevail in the State’s plains today.

Dehradun is forecast to witness a partly cloudy sky. Very light to light rain/thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty wind (30-40 kmph) are likely to occur in some areas. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 35 degrees Celsius and 17 degrees Celsius in Dehradun on Friday.

The centre stated on Thursday that during the past 24 hours, maximum temperatures remained appreciably below normal to normal in the plains and mountains of the State. However, the maximum temperatures are likely to rise by three to five degrees Celsius during the next two to three days in the State.

Meanwhile, Dehradun witnessed the sky turning dark late in the afternoon on Thursday. A spell of rain and thunder brought relief from the heat with the maximum temperature dropping a degree below normal. Light to moderate rain was reported in various parts of the State. The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded on Thursday were 33.9 degrees Celsius and 19.8 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 32.4 degrees Celsius and 18.2 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 22 degrees Celsius and 11.3 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 21.9 degrees Celsius and 10.1 degrees Celsius in New Tehri. While Dehradun witnessed light rain at 7.9 millimetres, there was 52.3 millimetres rain in Mussoorie, 13 millimetres in Tehri, four millimetres in Pantnagar, 21.5 millimetres in Lohaghat, 13.5 millimetres in New Tehri and 11 millimetres in Tharali.
