The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) organised a workshop to review preparations for the field assessment of Swachh Survekshan 2026. The workshop was presided over by Dehradun mayor Saurabh Thapliyal in the presence of municipal commissioner Namami Bansal.

The corporation officials said that the workshop was organised to brief municipal staff, self-help groups, NGOs and other stakeholders about the evaluation indicators of the cleanliness survey and to strengthen the city’s preparations ahead of the field assessment.

A detailed presentation was delivered on the parameters of the survey, including the Open Defecation Free (ODF) certification and the Garbage Free City (GFC) star rating. Participants were also informed about the current status of sanitation management in the city and the measures required to improve performance in the upcoming assessment.

Representatives of NGO Waste Warriors also presented the waste-management model implemented in the Harrawala model. The officials said that the model focuses on door-to-door waste collection, segregation at source, public awareness campaigns and community participation. Suggestions were also shared for replicating similar practices in other wards. The MCD also appointed seven brand ambassadors to promote sanitation awareness under the Swachh Survekshan campaign. The brand ambassadors were tasked with encouraging citizen participation in cleanliness initiatives.

The mayor emphasised the need to promote cleanliness as a public movement. The municipal commissioner said that coordinated efforts by officials and citizens are essential for improving Dehradun’s performance in the national cleanliness survey.
