Rawat directs Doon University VC to complete formalities for  Hindu Studies Centre

Education minister Dhan Singh Rawat directed the Doon University vice chancellor Surekha Dangwal to complete all necessary formalities for establishing the Hindu Studies Centre at the university in accordance with National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. He said this during a review meeting of the university on Friday.

Rawat emphasised that the Hindu Studies Centre will serve as an important platform for preserving, analysing and disseminating Indian spiritual and philosophical traditions. He stated that the centre will promote an understanding of Hindu traditions, scriptures and philosophy, while also encouraging Indian research methodologies in teaching and research. Additionally,  he said that Apart from this, ethics, analytical vision and cultural understanding will also be developed in the students by providing multidisciplinary education rooted in the Indian knowledge tradition. A four-year undergraduate programme will be introduced, covering subjects such as Tattva Vimarsh, Dharma and Karma Vimarsh, Vaad-Parampara, Ramayana, Mahabharata and leadership and organisational behaviour. At the postgraduate level, students will study topics like Hindu philosophy, society, literature, religion and leadership skills in greater depth, he said.

Rawat further said that after Banaras Hindu University, Doon University will be the second university in the country to systematically teach subjects related to Indian knowledge traditions, including the Veda, Purana and Indian philosophy. He stressed that the centre will bridge modernity and tradition by preparing informed citizens and leaders with strong moral values, analytical capabilities and cultural consciousness.

In the meeting, he also reviewed the progress of the Dr Nityanand Himalayan Research and Study Centre and the MSc in urban development management. He urged departmental officers and university administration to make concrete efforts to enhance the research centre’s utility for students and to develop the university as a centre of excellence.
