The All India Kisan Mahasabha Bindukhatta Committee has toughened its stand on the demand of declaring Bindukhatta and Bagjala as revenue villages. Notably, the committee has been spearheading an agitation on this demand for the past 73 days.
Addressing a meeting of the committee, the State president of the Kisan Mahasabha, Anand Singh Negi said that the State government has not yet taken concrete steps to provide ownership rights to the people of Bindukhatta and Bagjala. “We will continue to raise the voice of the people on this issue through public awareness campaigns and peaceful protests,” he added.
The meeting also demanded that the chemically contaminated water from the Century Paper Mill be diverted underground and removed from populated areas. Among other demands were relocation of crocodiles living in rivulets and review of the Cow Protection Act of 2007.
