Road projects worth Rs 1.30 lakh crore underway in Uttarakhand: Gadkari

The Union Road Transport and Highways minister, Nitin Gadkari has said that the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor (DDEC) will lend a new impetus to the development of Uttarakhand. Addressing the public meeting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Garhi Cantt, Gadkari said that work on projects worth Rs 1.30 lakh crore is currently underway in the State.

He informed that a 51 kilometre long, six-lane road from Saharanpur bypass to Haridwar will be inaugurated in June this year. The Union minister said that the Rs 1,650 crore, four-lane Paonta Sahib-Dehradun road will also become operational from next month. He said that the phase I of the four-lane greenfield bypass in Haridwar constructed at a cost of Rs 1,600 crore will be completed before October 2026. The minister added that the work on the Rs 1,100 crore Rishikesh bypass road project aimed at decongesting Rishikesh will start in August this year. The Union minister said that earlier the pilgrims had to pass through Nepal and China for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra but now a 370 kilometre long, Rs 5,200 crore road project connecting Tanakpur- Pithoragarh to Lipulekh is underway. He said that work on the 640 kilometre long stretch out of total 825 kilometre long Char Dham Road project is complete. The minister added that the Union government is also working on ropeway projects in Kedarnath and Hemkund Sahib.
