A senior citizen has filed a complaint at Rajpur police station, alleging that he was cheated of Rs 25 lakh in the name of purchasing a flat in Park Vale, Dehradun. The complainant Rajesh Sethi said he visited the housing project in May after being directed by a security guard to meet Manish Mittal, who claimed to be the builder’s authorised representative. Mittal showed him a flat and assured him that the sale would be completed soon. According to the complaint, a cheque was later issued in the name of Ashok Kumar Chugh, whom Mittal described as an investor. Mittal also reportedly promised that an agreement to sell would be prepared within a few days and that possession of the flat would be given in July. However, the sale deed was never completed despite repeated requests. When Sethi decided to cancel the deal and asked for his money back, he was allegedly given repeated assurances but did not receive the refund.
The complainant later contacted builder VK Dhawan, who allegedly informed him that Mittal was no longer authorised to sell the builder’s flats. Sethi also spoke to Chugh, who reportedly promised to return the money after receiving payment from the builder. However, the amount was still not refunded. Sethi further alleged that on June 16, Mittal tried to assault him near his residence while he was returning from a morning walk. He claimed that a security guard intervened and saved him. The complainant has accused Mittal, Dhawan and Chugh of acting together to cheat him of Rs 25 lakh. The Rajpur police have registered an FIR against three accused and started investigation in the case.
