PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun

In a major change at the apex of the power corporations of the State, the Uttarakhand government has removed the managing director (MD) of Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) Anil Kumar and MD of UJVN Limited, Sandeep Singhal. The general manager Yamuna valley I ( Dakpathar), UJVNL  Gajendra Singh Budhiyal has been given additional charge of the MD UPCL while general manager Bhagirathi valley, UJVNL Ajay Kumar Singh is given additional charge of MD UJVNL.

The marching orders to the MDs of the UJVNL and UPCL were given by the principal secretary R Meenakshi Sundaram late Tuesday night. Pertinently both the MDs, Anil Kumar and Sandeep Singhal were on an extension of two year after attaining the superannuating age ( 60 years) in June 2024. Pertinently, the officiating MD of the Power Transmission Corporation of Uttarakhand Limited (PTCUL) PC Dhyani was removed from his post by the State government following an order in this regard by Uttarakhand High Court. Dhyani’s appointment was challenged on the ground that he does not possess the Engineering Graduate degree, necessary for the post of MD of the PTCUL. The director (operations) UPCL Ajay Kumar Agarwal was also removed from his position. He too was working on extension from December 2024. The removal of the MDs and senior officers of the power corporation suggests that following the order of the HC on MD PTCUL, the State government has decided to terminate the extension given to the retired officers.

The government also removed the chief executive officer (CEO) of Badrinath Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) Vijay Prasad Thapliyal on Tuesday and sent him back to his original department, the Agriculture Produce Market Committee.
