Following the directive of the Election Commission of India, preparations for Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in Uttarakhand have started. The SIR is slated to commence in the State in the month of April.
The chief electoral officer of Uttarakhand, BVRC Purushottam held a video conferencing session with the district magistrates (DM) of all the districts on Friday on SIR. At present pre -SIR activity is underway in the State in which mapping of the voters is being done.
In the meeting, the CEO said that the mapping percentage is less than the target in Dehradun, Udham Singh Nagar and Nainital districts. On a stern note, he said that the responsibility of the EROs should be fixed for less mapping percentage in the booths under their charge.
Purushottam warned that the stern punitive action will be taken against the officers concerned for laxity in SIR works. The CEO also directed that booth awareness group (BAG) should be constituted as part of the preparation for SIR.
He said that booth level agents (BLA) have been appointed in 77 per cent of the booths and directed the DMs to hold meetings with the representatives of the political parties for 100 per cent appointment of BLAs. The CEO also directed the DMs to appoint additional employees in the SIR Helpdesks in the districts without any delay.
The meeting was attended by joint CEO Prakash Chandra, deputy CEO Kishan Singh Negi and DMs, ADMs and EROs of all the districts.
