An 86-year-old woman has been duped in Dehradun through a fake call from a medical team. Finding that she had been supped, she filed a complaint at Cyber Crime Police Station and a case has been registered.
As per the complaint, the woman received a call from a person who claimed to be from a company’s medical team. The caller allegedly asked her to upload a photo for a life certificate and demanded a payment of Rs 10. When the woman said she was unable to make online payment due to technical issues, the caller offered to help her through a Whatsapp video call. Later, the alleged fraudster made a Whatsapp video call and spoke to the woman for about half an hour. During the conversation, the caller sent her an APK link and asked her to click on it. Trusting the caller, the woman clicked the link.
The next morning, the woman grew suspicious and visited her bank. There she found that Rs 2,19,986 had been fraudulently withdrawn from her account without her knowledge. She immediately reported the matter to the cyber cell. Police said a case was registered and an investigation is underway.
