Transport department raises awareness on road safety

The Transport department in Rudrapur organised a road safety workshop at the GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology to raise awareness on road accidents. ARTO (Administration) Mohit Kothari informed the students about the importance of following traffic rules. He exhorted the youth to develop a safe road culture.
Earlier officials also informed the gathering about the statistics related to road traffic accidents in Udham Singh Nagar district and elsewhere in the State. It was informed that those in the 18-35 years ago group accounted for the largest number of fatalities in road accidents. Overspeeding is the most common cause for accidents, the officials said.
The officials also informed the gathering in detail about the four E’s of road safety- engineering, education, enforcement and emergency. They stressed on the need for learning the language of before walking or using a vehicle on the roads. The message conveyed by different road signs, the lines drawn on the road, right of way and other such regulations and concepts are provided for the safety of the road users. The students were told to always wear seat belt while driving a car and a helmet while riding a two-wheeler while also ensuring that they do not use vehicles without a valid license, abstain from using a mobile phone while driving, to remain within the speed limit, to avoid drinking alcohol while driving, to use dipper and night and not to drive on the wrong side. ARTO (Enforcement) Navin Singh spoke about the social impacts of road traffic accidents. He informed about how an entire family can be impacted by an accident. He also informed the gatherings about the basic precautions which can help one avoid road accidents. The university’s dean of student welfare AS Jeena, other faculty members and Transport department officials were also present on the occasion.
