In response to vehicle accidents happening due to dense fog and fire accidents involving tourist buses, the regional transport officer (Enforcement and Road Safety) of Dehradun Anita Chamola has directed all enforcement teams, task forces and interceptor teams within the Dehradun division to conduct checks on trucks, dumpers, trailers and tractor trolleys parked along the roadside.
Chamola said that she provided detailed instructions for the enforcement teams to inspect various vehicle components, including reflectors, indicators, headlights, taillights and fog lights. Additionally, they were instructed to verify the necessary safety measures for fire safety in passenger buses, including the installation of fire extinguishers and other equipment. The regional inspector (Technical) has also been tasked with checking the wiring and fire extinguishers for fire safety in vehicles, she said.
Additionally, under Chamola’s instructions, a campaign is being conducted by the enforcement teams, task forces and interceptor teams to inspect heavy vehicles and passenger vehicles in the Dehradun and Haridwar districts. Chamola reported that, during this campaign, 421 vehicles were issued Challans, including 78 trucks/dumpers and 36 buses. She personally inspected several vehicles and, upon finding non-compliance, issued a Challan and impounded three buses. The officials also penalised roadways buses during the drive.
“The Regional Transport Office (RTO) has appealed to vehicle owners to park their vehicles in safe areas along the road and to keep their vehicle lights and fog lights on at night,” Chamola stated. The RRO has also asked vehicle owners to implement the necessary fire safety measures in passenger buses.
