District hospital gets 20 temporary folding beds for Emergency Dept

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun

To enhance services, the Deen Dayal Upadhyay District Hospital has acquired 20 temporary folding beds for the Emergency department. These beds will be utilised during times of disaster, pandemics or other emergencies. This information was shared by the Principal Medical Superintendent (PMS) Dr Manu Jain.

Jain said that the hospital administration initiated this move to enhance the quality of care during emergencies such as disasters or pandemics, which often lead to an increased demand for beds. Considering this, the hospital has recently invested in 20 folding beds for the emergency department. He clarified that these beds will not be permanently stationed in the Emergency department at the hospital but have been purchased in advance to ensure readiness when needed. Along with these beds, we have also inspected the oxygen and other infrastructure facilities to ensure that there will be no hindrance to treatment during emergencies.

Jain further informed that he has developed a road plan to be implemented during times of emergencies, including disasters and pandemics. He said that during such situations, when the number of patients visiting the hospital increases, ambulances face challenges accessing the emergency department for treatment. To address this issue, a road plan within the hospital has been established. Six already recruited PRD security guards will be deployed at various entry and exit points of the hospital to ensure that the pathways remain clear, preventing congestion for ambulances. Hence, with this, the entry and exit points of the ambulances will vary during emergencies, he said.

Additionally, Jain added that a destitute ward for patients who are impoverished or homeless few days back was established in the emergency department. To improve hygiene and reduce the chances of infection during emergencies, this ward has been relocated to another floor within the hospital premises.

It will be recalled that recently, while taking charge of PMS at the district hospital, Jain at that time intended to strengthen the emergency medical services, the gynecology department, along with safe pregnant women deliveries at the hospital.
