Following the guidance of the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, major intersections in Dehradun are being transformed from simple traffic points into safe and culturally rich showcases. Importantly, the district administration, led by district magistrate Savin Bansal, keeps overseeing these renovations, funded by Smart City Limited. According to officials, the work at Kuthal Gate cost Rs 135 lakh while the upgrades at Sai Mandir Tiraha amounted to Rs 85 lakh.
The DM said that within six months, the administration has developed 10-metre-wide motorable slip roads, roundabouts, modern lighting, aesthetically pleasing mountain-style beautification, traffic safety designs and artwork that highlights the State’s culture and the Statehood movement at both intersections. These improvements aim to enhance traffic flow in Dehradun, reduce the risk of accidents and provide tourists with a glimpse of the city’s cultural heritage, he said.
“The incorporation of traditional Garhwal and Kumaon architectural styles, memorials of notable personalities and Statehood agitators, as well as religious and cultural artifacts at these locations is helping Dehradun to transform into a vibrant cultural corridor. These will introduce the visitors to Uttarakhand’s folk culture and serve as an ambassador for promoting tourism,” Bansal said.
He further said that to ensure smooth and safe traffic, a modern roundabout-based traffic system has been implemented in the first phase by widening four major intersections.
Following the completion of work at Kuthal Gate and Sai Mandir, the high-level modernisation of Dilaram Chowk is also nearing completion. “The initiative marks a significant step in transforming Dehradun into a modern city that is rich in cultural, mythological and historical heritage,” Bansal said.
