The Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) has claimed that it has installed smart meters on almost all meters having more than 75 KW of electricity load.

The managing director of UPCL, Anil Kumar Yadav said that on the orders of chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami smart meters are being installed in households of more about 16 lakh consumers under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) in the State. He said that under the scheme, the corporation has achieved a significant milestone of installing smart meters at more than 96 per cent of consumers of HTCT category. Yadav said that this will play a vital role in the direction of ensuring energy transparency and technological efficiency. These smart meters will help in achieving maximum energy accounting.

The HT consumers are those high value consumers where the electricity load is more than 75 KW.  Shopping malls, big showrooms, hotels, industrial units, offices and commercial complexes come under this category. Yadav said that exact monitoring of expenditure, time bound billing and detailed analysis are important for revenue safety and energy balancing.

He said that the HTCT smart meters help in 24X7 monitoring of the real time energy consumption due to which the grid operation and load management is strengthened. These meters are advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) based which provide benefits of remote metering such as auto bill generation, connection, disconnection and alert system.

Giving the credit of achievement to the UPCL field teams, engineers and agencies the MD said that the corporation is installing smart meters in order to give priority to power management, consumer service and digitalisation.
