Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the family is the first school for any individual and the mother who is the first teacher is also the axis of the family. He added that the place of mother is considered supreme in Indian culture.
The CM was addressing Matri Sanskar Samagam organised under the aegis of the Vishwamangallya Sabha at Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) here on Tuesday.
In his address, Dhami said that he is happy and blessed to be present among mothers and sisters from across the State through this special programme. He praised the Vishwamangallya Sabha’s efforts to highlight the power of motherhood and family values and expressed gratitude to all the workers and women involved.
The CM said that the values inculcated by mothers have unique importance in our cultural traditions, scriptures and historical events. Citing the examples of Lord Ram and mother Kaushalya, Lord Krishna and mother Yashoda and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and mother Jijabai, he said that maternal values played a decisive role in the personality development of these great personalities. Dhami said that the modern lifestyle has led to a decline in communication within families. The increasing incidence of divorce and the tendency to move away from the family institution are signs of social change. He said that every individual has the right to make their own life decisions, but maintaining the core values of family (sacrifice, cooperation and responsibility) is equally important. Emphasising the need to strike a balance between modernity and family values, the CM concept of ‘family enlightenment’ as the need of the hour. He said that the family is not just a social unit, but the first school of values, where children learn values such as respect, discipline, cooperation, tolerance and patriotism.
Addressing the programme, the CM’s wife Geeta Dhami said that social service is the essence of human life and when service becomes a tradition of a family, its impact is not limited to the individual only, but it awakens the consciousness of the entire society. Highlighting the role of a mother in Indian culture, she said that a mother is not only an embodiment of affection, but also the foundation of society. She expressed confidence that if every family connects its next generation with a spirit of service, problems like insensitivity, selfishness, and social disintegration will naturally diminish.
In the programme, the CM felicitated Mamta Rana, Mamta Rawat, Shaila Brijnath, Sadhvi Kamlesh Bharti, Rajrani Agarwal, Manju Tamta and Kavita Malasi for their outstanding work in seven different fields.
