PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

All wings of Uttarakhand Police are active in all districts and border areas after the blast near Red Fort in Delhi late on Monday. The additional director general of police (law and order) V Murugesan said that since the director general of police Deepam Seth announced a high alert on Monday night, police in all districts are doing random spot checking at vulnerable places like railway stations, bus stations and border locations. Police are conducting searches at international and inter-district borders, airports, airstrips, Air Force stations, helipads, aviation training institutes, hotels, dharamshalas, railway stations, bus stands, markets and other crowded locations with the help of bomb disposal squads and dog squads. He said that the respective police wings are coordinating with police and agencies concerned of neighbouring states to ensure safety and security near borders. Murugesan said that these measures are precautionary and that people do not need to panic. Besides this, the ADG held a meeting with senior police officers of Uttarakhand on Tuesday through video conferencing to review crime and law and order across Garhwal and Kumaon ranges. During the review, officers assessed ongoing actions to maintain law and order and strengthen crime control. Murugesan directed officers to work in a coordinated and sensitive manner. Following the Delhi blast, he ordered intensive checking in all districts as per instructions from the Union government and police headquarters. He instructed district police heads to personally review pending investigations and ensure timely disposal. Officers were told to achieve full detection and recovery in theft and robbery cases. Police must review vehicle theft and snatching incidents received through Dial112 and take action. The ADG said that the superintendent of police (telecommunications) will collect and submit monthly district-wise reports on street crime. Districts with higher Dial-112 response time will reorganise resources to bring response time to the State average. Murugesan also said that officers must inspect serious crime and property-related crime scenes using the all-purpose crime scene investigation kit with drug detection kit and review such inspections regularly. He directed officials to ensure effective use of the central government portals to support scientific investigation and to update investigating officers. Nodal officers will review progress from time to time, he added.
