Women drivers to ferry tourists in CTR jungle safari

The women drivers will soon storm the male bastion of driving the SUVs in the famous jungle safari of the Corbett Tiger Reserve (CTR).

Following the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announcement, to end men’s exclusive hold over safari driving in CTR, 24 women drivers have undergone special training in Dehradun. The training focused not just on wildlife safety but on ensuring that tourists enjoy smooth jungle safari adventures.

The women drivers can apply with their vehicles until October 5 and only after RTO verification, they will be granted safari permits. Importantly, under the Veer Chandra Garhwali Scheme, women have the option of purchasing their own vehicles to eke out a living from conducting safari in CTR to which tourists in their teeming thousands come from across the world to enjoy the Park’s wildlife abundance.

Until now, only men could sit behind the steering wheels of Corbett’s safari vehicles and the gender-based exclusivity is about to end.

Speaking of the matter, the warden of Corbett Tiger Reserve, Amit Gwasakoti said that applications have already been invited from women. “Once the permits are issued following the fulfillment of formalities, they will officially begin their jungle safaris,” he added.
