The dispute between some members of the Sikh community and people from Uttarakhand has continued on social media, with both sides posting videos and messages against each other. The dispute was sparked off by the violent incidents involving some Nihang Sikhs and locals at Karnprayag in Chamoli district and Nagrasu in Rudraprayag district. An FIR has also been registered in Himachal Pradesh against Uttarakhand Kranti Dal leader Ashish Negi in connection with a statement he had made during the ongoing differences.
To prevent the spread of fake news and avoid any law and order problems, the Uttarakhand Cyber Police and the Special Task Force (STF) are closely monitoring social media platforms. Officials are keeping a watch on videos and posts that could create tensions or spread misinformation.
Speaking on the issue, STF senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said that some recent incidents have triggered hateful and misleading content on social media. He said that the cyber team is monitoring online platforms and has already taken action against several users. Police have also counselled some people and shared verified facts about the incidents on social media to stop the spread of rumours. Singh appealed to the public to verify information before uploading or sharing any post and to avoid spreading unverified or misleading content.
