RRP warns of agitation over demand for strong Lokayukta

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

The Rashtrawadi Regional Party (RRP) has warned that it will intensify its agitation over the long-pending demand for the formation of a strong and independent Lokayukta.  RRP national president Shiv Prasad Semwal alleged that the State government had failed to fulfill its election promises despite the Lokayukta Act being passed in 2014 and repeated directions from the Uttarakhand High Court. He claimed that crores of rupees were being spent on infrastructure, staff and vehicles in the name of the Lokayukta without any appointment, calling it a waste of public funds.

The party announced a phased protest programme, including a one-day fast on January 4 at the Indramani Badoni Memorial near Clock Tower, followed by a rally from Parade Ground to the chief minister’s residence on January 11. An indefinite hunger strike will be launched from January 30, 2026, at the Lokayukta office if the demand is not met.

Lokayukta campaign convener Parmanand Balodi said that the movement would remain peaceful but firm, while State president Sulochana Ishtwal said that corruption affects women and common citizens the most. The RRP appealed to social organisations and political parties to support the movement for a corruption-free Uttarakhand.
