5 new models introduced in Uttarakhand’s Cooperative sector

The Uttarakhand government is planning to introduce five new innovative models in the cooperative sector of the State. These models are Medical Cooperative, Youth Cooperative, Forest Cooperative, Tourism Cooperative and Multinational Fisheries Cooperative.
An announcement regarding this was made by the Cooperatives minister Dhan Singh Rawat on the closing day of the ‘ Sahakar Manthan’ workshop at Forest Research Institute (FRI) on Wednesday.
He said that the objective of the Medical Cooperative is to provide cheap and accessible medical services in rural and urban areas and will include hospitals, pharmacy and insurance. Similarly the purpose of Youth Cooperative is to link youth with startups and that of Forest Cooperative is to provide benefits of forest products to forest dwellers. He said that the aim of the Tourism Cooperative is to link local youth with rural tourism while the purpose of the Multinational Fisheries Cooperative is to create a competitive cooperative model in fisheries.
The minister said that in order to introduce comprehensive reforms in the sector changes will be made in the cooperative act and regulations. The purpose is to make the cooperative system forward looking and transparent. Rawar said that soon one day Sahakar Manthan programmes will be held with the chairpersons of district cooperative committees and others. The minister directed the officers to make preparations for the Cooperative Fairs
In the last session of the workshop, in -depth discussions were held on digital transformation of Cooperatives, role in green development, State Cooperative enhancement, consumer-centric banking, Cooperative education and training and rural innovation.
The programme was attended by former president of district cooperative bank Subash Ramola, registrar cooperatives Meherban Singh Bisht and others.
