Following the demise of Shankaracharya Swaroopanand Saraswati, his chosen disciple Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati has been made the Shankaracharya of Jyotish Peeth. He will be the 45th Shankaracharya of this Peeth situated in Uttarakhand. The official announcement regarding this was made on Monday at the Paramhansi Ashram at Narsinhpur in Madhya Pradesh.
For the past many years, Avimukteshwaranand has been participating in all religious and other activities at the Jyotish Peeth here as the representative disciple of Swaroopanand Saraswati. Following Swaroopanand’s demise on Sunday, his personal secretary Swami Subodhanand formally announced Avimukteshwaranand’s accession to the position of Shankaracharya of the Jyotish Peeth on Monday.
Avimukteshwaranand had taken Deeksha from Swaroopanand Saraswati in 2006.
