Dehradun police have charged a minor boy on charges of sexually abusing and issuing death threats to a minor girl living in the Vikasnagar area. The accused allegedly absconded to the Kargil district of Ladakh after the police started searching for him. The officials said that a man filed a complaint in the Vikasnagar police station on May 13 stating that a person residing in Ambadi village of Vikasnagar purportedly sexually abused his daughter and subsequently threatened to shame her publically and kill her if she told her family about the abuse. The officials said that the police registered a case against the accused under several relevant acts including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Considering the sensitivity of the incident, the Dehradun senior superintendent of the police Daleep Singh Kunwar formed a team to investigate the matter. The police team started searching for the accused who allegedly started shifting from Ambadi to various places like Haryana, Punjab and Ladakh to avoid his arrest but the police soon found him in the Kargil district of Ladakh. The officials said that it was revealed during the questioning that the accused is a minor after which, the police handed him to the custody to his father and instructed him to bring the accused for investigation in the police station. The accused was taken into custody on Friday as per the law and will be presented before the juvenile justice board soon, added officials.
