Parents demand online classes, not frequent holidays during heavy rains

Wednesday, 19 July 2023 | PNS | DEHRADUN

Several parents here have demanded online classes for their children due to frequent traffic jams and waterlogging. Many parents could be seen stuck in traffic and waterlogged roads on Tuesday morning while dropping their children to school.  Considering the unpredictable nature of the monsoon, the district administration should order schools to provide online classes rather than frequently closing schools, the parents said.

Commenting on the severe traffic jam on the road during rainy days, a parent Vijay Singh said, “I face a lot of trouble while dropping my children to school on a rainy day. It is quite difficult for the parents as well as students to reach the school on a rainy day. I understand we do not always demand a school holiday during heavy rain. But instead of closing the school on rainy days, online classes should be available for the students who face a lot of trouble while reaching the school.”

Another Parent Sakshi Agnihotri claimed that she is a single mother and dropping children to school in a two-wheeler is quite a challenging task for her during the monsoon. She said that most of the time the district administration closed the school when heavy rain was forecast. She said that it is possible for the administration to order the school for the online classes considering the possibility of heavy rain in the city, she added.

Regarding the trouble faced during the rain, a student Saksham Bhardwaj said, “For me, it’s getting very problematic to reach school on time on a rainy day. Apart from this, most of the students have to sit wet in the class on a rainy day. So it is better if the State administration looks for the best alternative for the students on such rainy days.”
