Dengue is a posing major threat to the people of Dehradun with more and more cases coming to fore with each passing day. Besides treatment, diet plays a very important role in bringing people out of dengue fever. With Dengue gripping the city, people are looking for alternative or natural remedies to treat and control it. The common remedies that are believed to help a patient suffering from dengue recover are coconut water, kiwi and juice of papaya leaves. The doctors however opine that there is a misconception in the general public that use of the above mentioned things help in prevention of dengue.
Many city-based doctors claimed that the said remedies are not the treatment to cure dengue.
Senior physician at district hospital, Dr Pravin Panwar told this correspondent, “In dengue, the sole focus on platelet levels in the body is insufficient. There exist numerous other symptoms that must be addressed in the treatment of dengue. Therefore, the notion of consuming coconut water, papaya leaves, goat milk, and other substances as a means of curing dengue is nothing more than a misconception. In fact, these remedies can have adverse effects on individuals. Consequently, I strongly advise seeking professional medical attention from a doctor when experiencing any illnesses, including typhoid and dengue, rather than attempting self-care.”
Talking to The Pioneer, a physician at CMI Hospital, Dr Anshika Jain, said that dengue is an illness that typically resolves within a span of seven to eight days. However, individuals tend to perceive dengue as a highly severe ailment and often resort to utilizing home remedies such as coconut water, kiwi and papaya for recovery. It is important to note that these remedies do not constitute an effective treatment for curing dengue, as they merely contribute to fluid intake in the body,” she added.
Jain further advised individuals to seek consultation from a doctor rather than solely relying on medications prescribed by a chemist.
