4,917 arrested in State under NDPS Act since 2021

The Uttarakhand police have arrested 4,917 accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act since 2021. Out of these, 1,432 were arrested from Dehradun, 869 from Udham Singh Nagar, 795 from Haridwar and 781 from Nainital.
The districts with the least number of arrests under the NDPS act are mostly in mountainous areas like seven in Rudraprayag, 49 in Chamoli, 65 in Champawat and 103 in Bageshwar, as per the officials. Besides this, the police have also arrested 814 wanted criminals most of which were done by Haridwar police with 356 arrests and Dehradun police with 132 arrests from January 2021 till August 2023, said the officials. The police also acted against 1,620 accused under the Goonda Act including action against 408 culprits in Udham Singh Nagar, 642 culprits in Haridwar, 228 in Nainital and 161 in Dehradun.
The director general of police Ashok Kumar said that the police is committed to making the State crime and criminal free and special campaigns are being conducted regularly to achieve this aim. He said that special instructions have also been given to all the district in-charges to take all possible measures to tackle crimes in their respective areas.
