While addressing a Press conference here on Saturday, the senior consultant, Cosmetic and Plastic Surgery, Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, New Delhi, Dr Kuldeep Singh said that there is nothing to fear in cosmetic and plastic surgery treatment and added that despite the fear persisting in many people, the number of cosmetic and plastic surgery cases, including oncology reconstruction, is rising across the country.
He talked about the signs and symptoms, treatment modalities and diagnostic tests to promote treatment for cosmetic and plastic surgery cases. Singh exhorted the people to come forward with skin donation. He said that though there are 13 skin banks in India a few of them are now operational and added that the skins donated could be preserved upto six months in the skin banks.
He further informed that skin must be donated within six hours following death. Expressing concern over the spiralling number of children’s burn cases, Dr Singh urged the parents to keep them away from the kitchen.
