The Food Safety and Drug Administration carried out an inspection drive in Dehradun on Wednesday to check the quality of food items being sold in the city. A total of 15 fruit samples were collected for testing. Along with the ice cream sample, the team collected 16 samples from different areas of the district.
The inspection team was led by the deputy commissioner, Food Safety, R S Rawat and the assistant commissioner, Manish Sayana. The team first inspected an online platform warehouse, Instacart, located at Kamla Place on GMS Road. The officials had received a complaint that expired ice creams were being sold from the location.
During the inspection, a senior Food Safety officer, Ramesh Singh collected a sample of ice cream for laboratory testing. He said that action would be taken if the sample failed the quality standards.
After this, the team visited Nehru Colony and the fruit market in Dharampur. The officers checked whether fruits were being ripened with harmful chemicals or artificial colours. They examined mangoes, bananas, apples, papayas, watermelons, grapes and muskmelons. Rawat said such inspection drives would continue in the coming days. He warned the shopkeepers and traders not to sell poor quality or unsafe food items and asked people to report suspicious products to the department.
