The Kumaon commissioner Deepak Rawat directed officials to seal four establishments in Haldwani’s Banbhoolpura area on charges of keeping a huge stock of banned plastic products. He issued the order after conducting raids in the warehouse located in the Railway Station Bazaar of Banbhoolpura area on Sunday along with the police and the teams of the Municipal Corporation of Hakdanai (MCH) where authorities recovered about 70 quintals of banned plastic products most of which included single use plastics. He directed the city magistrate of Haldwani to seize the four shops and one basement of a building where the banned plastic products were allegedly stored.
On the directions of the commissioner, MCH issued a challan of Rs one lakh to the owner of the establishment. The officials said that the warehouse owner Asif informed authorities that he purchased these plastic products from Delhi, Dehradun, Bareilly and a factory in Rudrapur. He also reportedly showed GST bills of single use plastic purchased by him. Considering this, Rawat directed the deputy commissioner of Special Task Force (STF) Hemlata Shukla to check the authenticity of all these GST bills and present him with the report.
He said that the central government, state government and high court have banned the usage of single use plastics and the municipal bodies have been conducting raising awareness about it regularly. “Everybody now knows the negative impact of the use of single use plastics and people should avoid their usage. Authorities will continue to act against these violations”, added Rawat.
