Bharatiya Janata Party leader and the petitioner in the SC-ST scholarship scam case Ravinder Jugran appreciated the Enforcement Directorate’s investigation and action against Roorkee’s Vardhman Educational Society and three other educational institutions related to the case so far. Jugran had filed a PIL in the Uttarakhand High Court in September 2017 and had estimated money laundering of over Rs 500 crore in the scam. He said that the high court’s monitoring and supervision is primarily responsible for the progress made in the investigation of the scam so far. He claimed that a lot is still to be done in the case as hundreds of people from various educational institutions, the social welfare department and others are allegedly involved in the scam. He said that several accused in this case are out on bail and it is necessary that authorities take strict legal action against them for their crimes. He said that many officials of the Social Welfare department were sent to jail in the case but they have been reinstated. The accused carried out scams of crores of rupees by robbing taxpayers’ money that was meant to be provided to the underprivileged, poor and SC-ST students as scholarships for their bright future. Jugran added that he will continue to fight to ensure all accused involved in the case are brought to justice.
