Following the direction of Dehradun district magistrate Sonika, the Education department conducted a meeting with the officials of the Madarsa board on Monday. The meeting was held to discuss mapping of the Madarsas operating in Dehradun. During the meeting, the officials of the Madarsa board informed the chief education officer Pradeep Rawat that students in their affiliated Madrasas receive religious education as well as the curriculum prescribed by the Education department based on NCERT. They also mentioned that there are 12 Madrasas in the district where the mid-day meal scheme is implemented under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and free textbooks are provided by the Education department. Additionally, the children are taught Urdu and Arabic for religious education instead of Sanskrit. The officials also said that most of these children come to the Madrasas from other recognised schools for religious education. The officials in the meeting informed Rawat that non-Muslim students are not enrolled in any Madarsa in Dehradun. Apart from this, they also requested recognition from the Education department for the Madarsas under their management.
