Irrigation secretary inspects Jamrani dam project

Following the orders of the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the Irrigation secretary R Rajesh Kumar inspected the Jamrani Dam multipurpose project site on Saturday. During the review meeting of the Irrigation department held on July 3, the CM had asked the officers to hit ground zero to inspect the different projects of the department.

 Kumar said that the Jamrani dam project is one of the ambitious projects of the State government. 

The deputy general manager of the Jamrani dam project BB Pandey informed that the concrete gravity dam at an altitude of 150.6 metres is proposed at Jamrani. Nainital district will receive 42.70 MCM of drinking water from the project.

Apart from providing drinking water, the project will provide irrigation in 57,066 hectares of land in Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar districts of the State and Bareilly and Rampur districts of Uttar Pradesh. The State government has entered into a memorandum of understanding with the Union government for funding the project. 

The government of India has released a sum of Rs 157.50 crore as first instalment for the project in the financial year 2024-25.  The State government has released a sum of Rs 200 crore for the rehabilitation of the families affected by the project. During his visit the secretary directed the officers of the project to expedite the construction work in coordination with the district administration.
