In latest news from Uttarakhand, on expected lines, the teerth purohits associated with Char Dhams have gone hammer and tongs at the initiative of building a temple in Delhi resembling the Kedarnath Dham in Garhwal, They said that such an attempt amounted to slighting the spiritual/religious importance of the Kedarnath shrine believed to have been built by the Pandavas and renovated at the initiative of Adi Shankaracharya.
Hitting the road, the members of Yamunotri Mandir Samiti and those associated with Kedarnath Dham said that the Kedarnath being a Jyotirlinga stands in a class by itself and any attempt to slight its importance is a direct affront on the Sanatan Dharma. They further questioned the motive that led to the attempt to build a new Kedarnath Dham in the national capital. “Are efforts being made to put the original Kedarnath Dham and the upcoming Kedarnath Dham in Delhi on the same footing of spiritual importance?” asked a teerth purohit in Yamunotri. Another protestor from Kedarnath invoked scriptures, saying that one visit of Kedarnath Dham in Garhwal Himalayas bestows the same punya of visiting the 12 Jyotirlingas.
