Kolkata case: Doctors of government hospitals to boycott work today

The doctors of the State health services will boycott work on Saturday to register the protest on the brutal rape and murder of a female doctor in Kolkata. To express solidarity with the victim the doctors wore black armbands while working on Friday. They also took out a candle march on Friday evening from Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) campus in Patel Nagar to Lal Pul.
The president of the Provincial Medical Health Services (PMHS), Dr Manoj Sharma said that an online meeting of the doctors from all parts of the State was organised on Friday and it was unanimously decided that the members of PHMS will observe a work boycott from 6 am of August 17 to 6 AM of August 18. He said that the doctors will boycott OPDs and not perform elective surgeries on Saturday. The emergency services will however remain unaffected.kol
The PMHS also wrote a letter to the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressing concern on the brutal murder of the female doctor and attack by mob on protesting doctors in Kolkata.
The association of government doctors also demanded immediate intervention by the government of India on the issue. The PMHS demanded that security in the government hospitals and health centres should be ensured for the safety of doctors and hospital staff.
