The police arrested eight women at Darshan Lal Chowk in Dehradun for allegedly engaging in obscene behaviour and attempting to lure passerby with inappropriate gestures late on Thursday. The officials informed that the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh received information regarding a group of women allegedly engaging in obscene behaviour near Darshan Lal Chowk and making objectionable gestures at people.

The SSP sent a joint team of the respective Kotwali police and Anti Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) to the spot to investigate the matter and take further action accordingly. The officials said that upon reaching the spot, the police found a group of women standing together, making indecent gestures to attract people walking by.

In response, the police immediately intervened and arrested eight women for their conduct. The accused were identified as Kajal (35), Kavita (34), Renu (30), Shivani (30), Amrita (26), Vaishali Verma (24), Ruksar Khan (23) and Shehzadi (26). Most of these women live in slums of Bindal, Brahmanwala and Machhi Bazaar, the officials said.
