Congress standing with UPNL employees: Dhasmana

Friday, 25 October 2024 | PNS | DEHRADUN

The vice president of Uttarakhand Congress Surya Kant Dhasmana has said that the BJP government is planning to file a review petition in the Supreme Court on the issue of the Uttarakhand Purv Sainik Kalyan Nigam Limited (UPNL) employees which exposes its intention. He said that the decision to file a review petition shows the anti employee facet of the State government. Interacting with the media persons here on Thursday Dhasmana said while hearing  a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in 2018, the Uttarakhand High Court had directed the State government to regularise the services of UPNL employees.

He said that instead of preparing a plan and policy for regularising these employees the State government went to the Supreme Court challenging the order. Dhasmana said that SC has recently rejected the Special Leave Petition (SLP) and now the government is planning to file a review petition in the SC on the subject. He said that there are more than 22,000 UPNL employees in the State who are working in different departments of the State government for the last 10 to 20 years. Dhasmana said that the State government should regularise these employees considering their experience but it is determined to put obstacles in the path of their regularisation. He said that most of the departments of State government are dependent on the services of UPNL employees but they are drawing meagre salaries as compared to the regular employees.

Dhasmana said that when in the year 2021, the agitation of the UPNL employees was at its peak, two ministers of  BJP government gave false assurance to the employees to break the agitation. He said that with the rejection of the SLP of the State government by the SC, the HC order of 2018 becomes effective. Dhasmana said that the Congress party stands firmly with the UPNL employees and demanded that the State government should immediately regularise the services of UPNL workers.
