UP man caught with 1,600 narcotic injections worth over Rs 10 lakh in Udham Singh Nagar

A joint team of the police and the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of the Special Task Force (STF) arrested an inter-state smuggler Virpal Gangwar (29) with 1,600 narcotic injections worth over Rs 10 lakh from Kichha area of Udham Singh Nagar district late on Monday. The accused was also found in possession of an Alto car used for transporting the illegal substances. Among 1,600 narcotic injections, 800 injections were identified as Buprenorphine, a highly potent drug significantly stronger than morphine and 800 injections were Avil, the senior superintendent of police of STF Navneet Singh said. He informed that acting on a tip-off, the team arrested the accused, a resident of Sharif Nagar in Bareilly district of Uttar Pradesh. He revealed during investigation that he had reportedly procured the injections from a supplier named Arvind in Bareilly and was en route to deliver them in Rudrapur and Kichha areas where such contraband is sold at high prices, as per SSP. The accused reportedly admitted to frequently transporting narcotic injections from Bareilly for distribution in Uttarakhand. During the investigation, the STF also uncovered names of other drug smugglers and further actions are being planned. Authorities are examining the criminal history of the accused for prior offenses, Singh said. He stated that the STF has made significant seizures this year including 6.975 kilogrammes of smack, 19.808 kilogrammes of charas, 5.322 kilogrammes of opium, 300 kilogrammes of doda post, 37.1 kilogrammes of cannabis, 1600 narcotic injections, and seven grammes of MDMA. A total of 46 smugglers have also been arrested so far in 2024, he added.
