The Bharatiya Janata Party has averred that the allegations levelled by the Congress regarding the purity of the water of the Ganga river expose the party’s mentality which is against Sanatan Dharma and Devbhumi Uttarakhand. The BJP State spokesman and MLA Khajan Das said that the latest report shows that the efforts to clean the rivers have been successful. The Congress is unable to digest the fact that the Ganga is being cleaned at such a swift pace. Its disinformation is politically motivated, he alleged.

Interacting with the media, Das said that the Congress is pursuing its usual policy of lies and propaganda regarding the purity of Ganga. The latest report by various agencies have ascertained that the water meets all standards of purity at Gangotri. Substantial work has been done under the Namami Gange scheme to clean the rivers under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “From Gangotri to Hariwar, the State government along with the Central government established 53 sewage treatment plants while work is underway on some more. We have been successful in stopping polluted water from entering the Ganga through these STPs but a national political party is presenting other reports in a twisted manner, which is unfortunate,” he said.

Das said that the Congress should desist from playing politics on the water of the Ganga. He alleged that during the 60 years it was in office, the Congress never took any concrete action for the improvement of the Ganga and other rivers. “The Congress undertook the Ganga Action Plan for the sake of formality. The nation saw the loot of public money in such efforts from 1985 to 2014. Under Namami Gange we have ensured that the water of the Ganga is fit to drink at Gangotri, clean in Haridwar and work bathing in and cruising at Varanasi. Work is underway on a war footing under PM Modi’s guidance to make the Ganga water clean,” he added.
