The police recovered two bodies from a drain near the Gaadi bridge on the Jyotirmath-Malari National Highway on Wednesday. Informing this, the police station in-charge Rakesh Bhatt said that they had swung into operation on receiving the information through emergency services (112) about two dead bodies being visible in the river.
“Upon receiving this information, the police along with a team from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) arrived at the scene and found that the two bodies were floating in the river. Investigation revealed that a group of 18 persons of Nepali origin had arrived the previous night to work in the area,” he said.
Bhatt further stated that four of them had consumed a significant amount of intoxicants and two of them were among the deceased. “The third individual, identified as Hari, is currently missing. His clothing was found on the riverbank, suggesting that he might have been swept away by the river. Our search operation is still on,” he added.
Bhatt further said that the fourth individual, Nok Bahadur (22) had reported that the four had consumed intoxicating pills together. “He told police that he had fallen asleep while the trio was awake. He said he did not know what had happened meanwhile,” he said.
“When both the bodies were examined, there were no significant injuries noted except minor abrasions found on their backs. It seems they lay on the stones in the river. Preliminary findings suggest that the three fell into the river while inebriated and succumbed to the cold,” he said.
Notably, the two deceased have been identified as Subhash Pandey (24) and Chitra Bahadur (23), both from Nepal.
