Paragliding Acro & SIV competition concludes in Tehri

The four-day Paragliding Acro and SIV competition concluded at the Tehri dam reservoir here on Sunday. The competition was organised jointly by the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board (UTDB) and the Tehri district administration. Theo Deblik from France won the first position in the paragliding acro competition and received a cheque for Rs five lakh while the second prize winner Hugo Lami also from France was presented a cheque for Rs three lakh and the third position holder Pablo from Switzerland was presented with a cheque for Rs two lakh. In the SIV competition, first position holder Om Tanaji Takwe received a cheque for Rs two lakh, second position holder Yograj Thakur was presented with a cheque for Rs 1.5 lakh while third position holder Kapil Nautiyal was presented with a cheque for Rs one lakh.
Speaking on the occasion of the conclusion as the chief guest, the district magistrate Mayur Dixit said that the paragliding acro and SIV competition had been held for the second consecutive time at the Tehri dam reservoir with little time for preparation but was organised successfully even in difficult conditions. He said that efforts are being undertaken to develop the Tehri lakh as a destination for organising various national and international level water sports and adventure sports competitions in addition to encouraging water sports activities here. The authorities have given approval for two boating points on the Tehri lake while cruise boats and other types of boats will also be launched in the near future, he said. Further, work on the ring road is also being undertaken at a swift pace, the DM said, while adding that all these efforts will enhance employment opportunities in the area while also boosting the economic condition of the local residents.
Earlier, paraglider pilots from across the nation and abroad displayed various moves in the air which were appreciated by the tourists.
A total of 75 participants from various States including Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Uttarakhand and the North Eastern States in addition to 25 pilots from various countries like Turkey, France, Iran, Russia, Spain and Switzerland participated in the competition this year, the organisers stated.
