Venkateshwara Lions wins Legend League Cricket

The Venkateshwara Lions team comprising students from Shri Venkateshwara University won the Legend League Cricket Tournament 2025-the national level tennis ball cricket league of 10 overs- defeating Braj Warriors, Mathura by six wickets in the final match held at K D Singh Babu International Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. Twelve teams participated in it which was held for 10 days. The deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya gave a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh along with the trophy to the winning team. Besides, the chairman of the Venkateshwara Group of Institutes Sudhir Giri gave Rs five lakh to the team.

The players were felicitated on their return to the university campus. Among those present at the felicitation ceremony were Giri, IPS officer Amit Kumar Anand and vice-chancellor Rajiv Tyagi.

Notably, the chief selector of the tournament was former Indian cricketer Chetan Sharma while the former South African cricketer Jonty Rhodes was the commissioner of the league. Besides, Harbhajan Singh, Chris Gayle, Brett Lee, Mohammad Kaif and Suresh Raina were involved in the series as the coach/mentor.
