Police arrest 591 and seize narcotics worth Rs 24.25 crore in two months

The police have arrested 591 individuals and registered 427 cases against drug trafficking over the past two months in Uttarakhand. The police have also seized about 936.56 kilogrammes contraband worth Rs 24.25 crore. This was done under the police’s special campaign that commenced in January. This information was disclosed to the director general of police Deepam Seth in a review meeting which was attended by senior police officials of the State from all districts via video conference. He reviewed the actions taken against crime and criminals with senior officials, including range in-charges and district police chiefs. Seth said that the campaign against crime and criminals will continue, with a focus on arresting wanted and reward-listed criminals involved in drug trafficking. He said that special attention is being given to pending investigations, with station house officers and investigating officers being held accountable for any negligence or delay. Besides taking action against 561 individuals in drug trafficking, the police have also booked 26 individuals under the Gangster Act and seized illegally acquired properties worth Rs 1.74 crore from 15 accused. The special drive has now been extended until March 31, 2025. The DGP also instructed officials to conduct a month-long campaign to arrest wanted criminals, execute non-bailable warrants and take action against those with attachment orders. He stated that strict accountability measures have been placed on police officers for any lapses in handling serious crimes. District officials have been directed to enhance police visibility, conduct night patrols, increase security checks at checkpoints and deploy foot patrols in crowded areas.
