Mahara chides Modi govt on foreign policy bungling & India’s diplomatic isolation

PIONEER NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun
Expressing concern over the growing isolation of India at the international forum and Pakistan’s diplomatic acceptance at the cost of India, the Uttarakhand Congress president, Karan Mahara said that this is a severe blow to India’s global credibility, exposing the hollowness of the Centre’s ‘strong foreign policy’ bombast. “The massive foreign trips undertaken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the past decade, the PR strategies worth crores of rupees and the false image of India as a ‘Vishwaguru’ seem to be collapsing today,” the Congress leader said.
He further said that the Centre owes an explanation to the people of India why Pakistan has received the support of 182 out of 193 countries during a recent voting in the United Nations.
He urged all, particularly the BJP to seriously introspect. “The neighbouring countries like Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and now even Maldives have distanced themselves from India. This is a sad story of India’s inaction at international forums and missed opportunities,” he said.
Taking a veiled dig at the Centre on the recent ‘ceasefire fiasco’, Mahara said that diplomatic strength does not come from merely appearing strong in front of the camera. “The world judges by actions, not by words and slogans,” he said and demanded a comprehensive discussion on India’s international embarrassment due to foreign policy failure.
