Rakshabandhan, which signifies the bond between brothers and sisters, was celebrated with great enthusiasm throughout the State on Saturday. Many siblings took part in the festivities, creating lasting memories together. A significant number of people flocked to the market to purchase sweets and other items on Saturday, which along with the increased traffic also caused considerable congestion in Dehradun.
Local resident Meena Nainwal said that she began her preparations a week ahead of the festival. She tied traditional Rakhis to her two brothers. She said she also presented sweets to her brothers to further express her affection during the celebration.
“I have five sisters who came to my home to celebrate this occasion and tied different kinds of Rakhi on my wrist. We usually prepare the food that my sisters like. In addition, to make this celebration memorable, this year I started planning for the festival two to three days in advance, which included purchasing gifts, sweets and other items for my sisters as a gesture of love,” shared local resident Ravi Bhasin.
Meanwhile, a considerable number of people were also seen in the market areas in the city. Sweet shop owner Vimal Arora said that during Rakshabandhan, the sale of sweets markedly increases each year.
