DVMUVM seeks ban on four-wheelers in Paltan Bazaar to ease congestion

The Doon Valley Mahanagar Udyog Vyapar Mandal (DVMUVM) plans to approach the district administration to seek a permanent restriction on the entry of four-wheelers and three-wheelers in Paltan Bazaar. This decision comes in response to concerns raised by shoppers who find it challenging to navigate the market due to traffic congestion caused by four-wheelers.

Shoppers have urged the authorities to address this issue and take steps to alleviate traffic congestion, especially with the wedding season approaching.

It’s important to mention that during Deepawali this year, the authorities successfully banned the entry of both four-wheelers and three-wheelers in the market, which greatly reduced traffic congestion during that period.

Shopper Dhamanpreet Kaur expressed that she has been visiting the market frequently due to family functions. She said that shopping at Paltan Bazaar has become difficult because shoppers first have to deal with traffic caused by both four-wheelers and three-wheelers. She suggested that the authorities should implement a permanent restriction on these vehicles, similar to what was done during Deepawali.

Similarly, shopkeeper Bindu Tyagi pointed out that the increase in traffic has made it difficult not only for customers but also for shopkeepers to attract business. At times, they have to step onto the road to manage the congestion. She attributed the spike in traffic to street vendors and the presence of four-wheelers. She also called for a permanent restriction on these vehicles in the market.

Many other shoppers and shopkeepers have shared similar concerns. Further, president of the DVMUVM, Pankaj Masson, said that it’s true that the presence of four-wheelers and three-wheelers significantly contributes to traffic congestion, which poses problems for both shopkeepers and customers. He also said that street vendors in the market further exacerbate the situation. Given the success of the temporary ban during Deepawali, they intend to approach the district administration once again to request a permanent restriction on these vehicles in the market area.
