Bharatiya Janata Party national general secretary and the party’s State in-charge Dushyant Kumar Gautam finally broke his silence on him being named as the ‘VIP’ involved in the Ankita Bhandari murder case, stating that he will retire from political and social life if any allegation on his character is proven to be true. He also warned that he will take legal action against those “conspiring” to defame him.
In a statement released to the media Gautam said that during his political and social life of 47 years, he had upheld moral values, the principles of the BJP and the honour of women. He averred that he was sad considering the attempt to taint his image. “The manner in which videos and allegations are being spread on social media against me, the whole matter should be investigated. I am ready to cooperate with any probe. I have also written to the Uttarakhand Home secretary, seeking action against the person behind this conspiracy and will also file a defamation case. I also assure the public that if a single word or action I am accused of is proven, I will retire from political and social life,” he said. Gautam added that he will initiate action against those exploiting the Ankita Bhandari murder case and defaming him. Urmila Sanawar, the purported second wife of former MLA Suresh Rathore- expelled from the BJP for six years- recently released audio clips in which the former MLA purportedly names Gautam as the ‘VIP’ involved in the Bhandari murder case.
Meanwhile, MLA and BJP State spokesman Khajan Dass alleged that the Congress was defaming Uttarakhand and the Dalit community based on an unverified social media post. Addressing the media, he said that the court has sentenced the convicts in the case but the Congress is repeatedly raking up the issue as part of a conspiracy. Accusing the Congress of indulging in negative and shameful politics, Dass said that a video shared for publicity on social media was used by the Congress as a political weapon. He accused the Pradesh Congress Committee president Ganesh Godiyal of holding a Press conference in Delhi on the basis of unverified and vulgar statements, which shows that the Congress is exploiting the chain of events to insult Uttarakhand and the Dalit community.
