The Kumaon commissioner, Deepak Rawat said that Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam would monitor the major roads and other places tourists throng of Nainital, Bhimtal and Bhowali with Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras under the Smart City Project to strengthen security and traffic management. “This will help in controlling the speed of vehicles, parking management and crime control. Besides, the number of vehicles entering the city and those leaving the city will be available in the scientific data centre and can also be monitored through mobile,” he stated while chairing a meeting at his camp office here.
He further informed that the ANPR cameras, currently operating in Nainital city, can also be used to monitor the toll fees collected by the civic body from vehicles. “This will help determine whether the toll tax being collected by the civic body is being collected correctly,” he added.
Rawat directed the police officials to install a camera near the Kainchi Dham Gate before the fair commences there on June 15. This camera would enable a 100 per cent count of devotees visiting the shrine, he said and added that he had allocated the funds required for installing the camera near the gate.
Notably, senior police officials presented camera-collected vehicle monitoring data involving Nainital, Bhowali and Kainchi Dham to the Kumaon commissioner.
