Primary teachers protest TET compulsion, demand OPS restoration

The primary teachers of the State under the banner of the Prathmik Shikshak Sangh (PSS) held a protest march towards the State secretariat on Monday. The teachers were protesting the compulsion of Teachers Aptitude Test (TET) qualification for the teachers appointed before the year 2010 and demanded immediate restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) in the State. The protesting teachers gathered at the Parade Ground from  where they marched to the State secretariat. They were stopped by the Police near the State secretariat. The PSS office bearers handed over a memorandum directed to the chief minister to the city magistrate mentioning their 12 point demands.

The president of the Chamoli wing of the association, Digambar Singh Negi said that more than 20,000 teachers in the State are affected by the compulsion of TET order. He said that the teachers appointed before the implementation of the RTE act should be exempted from the compulsion of TET. He said that the State government should find some solution to provide relief to the thousands of teachers being affected by the order of the Supreme Court on the TET compulsion. Negi also demanded that the Uttarakhand government should restore the benefit of the OPS for all the employees and teachers.
