Police have registered a case against a self-styled ‘Maharaj’ for allegedly creating and sharing fake photos with the Vice-President, C P Radhakrishnan during a convocation ceremony at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh on April 23  which the VP attended as the chief guest.

According to police, the accused used artificial intelligence (AI) and photo-editing tools to make fake pictures showing himself standing with the VP and other dignitaries.

These photos were later shared on social media and even published in some newspapers. Police investigation found that the images were not real and the man was not present at the event.

Police further said his name was neither in the guest list nor in the official protocol.  “It is possible that he had done this to show himself as a well-connected person, for social or financial gain,” a police officer said.

Based on a complaint filed by AIIMS police outpost in-charge, Devendra Singh Panwar, a case has been registered under different sections of law.

The Rishikesh Kotwali in-charge Kailash Chandra Bhatt said the matter is serious and so further investigation is going on.
