PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Haridwar

The Municipal Corporation of Haridwar issued a notice to the prominent online delivery platform Rapido, stating that it must maintain the sanctity and traditional religious values of the holy city. The action follows information received by the civic body that the platform is delivering and transporting non-vegetarian items in some religiously sensitive areas, especially around the Ganga ghats.

The Municipal Corporation lodged a serious objection, stating that this militates against the religious sentiments, local traditions and the sanctity of the holy city. The notice states that Haridwar is a world-renowned religious city, where special restrictions apply to the sale, transportation and consumption of meat and alcohol in various notified and sensitive areas.

The civic body gave clear instructions that no delivery partner, seller, restaurant or other related person associated with the platform should deliver non-vegetarian products, liquor or other prohibited items in the Haridwar Municipal Corporation area, especially those near the Ganga ghats and restricted areas.

The notice further warned that if any such activity is found in future, strict legal and administrative action would be taken against the platform and associated persons under the existing laws and municipal provisions.

Plus, the Municipal Corporation directed the platform management to immediately issue compliance instructions to all its vendors, delivery partners and associated units and also provide confirmation of the same to the Municipal Corporation.
